Valentin Dugrais rediscovers materials and techniques that have fallen into oblivion. He questions how these underestimated raw materials can regain meaning within contemporary design. By connecting historical knowledge with experiment and observation, he exposes unconscious norms surrounding everyday objects.

Crinem Equus invites us to look differently at materials and something as everyday as sitting. Where most furniture is filled with soft plastics, hidden from sight, Valentin Dugrais chooses a more sustainable material that is visibly and tangibly present: horsehair. This natural material, once widely used but now largely forgotten, gives the piece of furniture a firm, resilient and slightly rough texture. It therefore sits differently from what we are used to: less for sinking into, more for active use. The form follows directly from the material, with nothing concealed.
