Send us a short motivation, your CV and/or portfolio. We’ll get in touch with you about the possibilities.

Behind a simple chair lies an entire chain of choices, materials and energy. What seems self-evident turns out to be inextricably linked with people and nature. At Kazerne, we work integrally on alternatives that are poetic, sustainable and inspiring.

No band-aid solutions,
but radical innovations

What does it take to truly transform societal challenges? Please share us your thoughts.

Within the Radical Chains project, Kazerne explores how the power of design power can drive nature-inclusive innovation. In cross-sectoral teams, designers work integrally with scientists, change managers, entrepreneurs and end users on the themes Food, Domestic and Landscape.

The research questions will be defined before the project kicks off: at the end of 2025 we’ll start with three brainstorm sessions of about 1.5 hours. In these sessions we’ll get to know each other, map the chain and the chain behind the chain.

We’ll also outline what the project is likely to require in terms of Work (hours), Wisdom (advice) and Wealth (euros). Kazerne Foundation has seed funding available to support the first phase.

The process culminates in experiments, prototypes and a thought-provoking exhibition during Dutch Design Week 2026, complemented by a rich fringe programme of think-tank dinners and talks.

Our aim is to activate participants and audiences to make choices from a place of symbiosis, with nature as an ally. In this way, even non-designers experience the value of exploratory and imaginative design.

You’ll soon find more here about a previous successful challenge: Biotope Brainport.

During DDW 2025, Kazerne Foundation will host an information session — keep an eye on our agenda!
