Driven by a deep love for the craft of furniture making, Eric Sloot has been designing products, furniture, interiors, and exhibitions for over thirty years, in collaboration with Paulien Berendsen under the name Studio Parade. Since 2017, they have run the furniture brand ‘Van Vrienden, where designs - often named after boys or girls - are presented and sold in an unusual way: not in a conventional furniture store, but in the personal and authentic interiors at the homes of ‘friends’. In addition, Sloot is co-founder of the wall decoration system IXXI.

Old furniture, such as the rounded, curved ‘bombé’ commodes, secretaires and cabinets, served as a source of inspiration for designer Eric Sloot. The curved-front cabinet Francy and the secretaire Els shown here, were handcrafted from fast-growing, locally harvested Brabant poplar wood. He used traditional techniques for the construction using only sustainable glue and varnish.
